Sara & La Paz
As many of you know through the posting of our adventures on Facebook, I currently have the ride on a very talented, 2011 gelding named "La Paz", or best known to his friends as Muki (pronounced Mookie). Muki and I have been together now since 2014, going from beginner novice to completing successfully at the Intermediate level in 2018.
It has been 10 years now since I have ridden at the four star level. As anyone who has ever strived for something they are passionate about can empathize with, 10 years is a long time for ups and downs to accumulate and take their toll.
My story is very similar to countless riders, as horses seem to pull to them a very distinct type of personality. Strong, brave, empathetic humans that don't give up easily. People who get the epithet of "crazy horse people" because frankly we are.
To the outside circle it seems crazy to do what we do when the heartbreak happens, or we keep getting knocked down inches before reaching a goal that was years in the making. The only answer to the 'why do this' is, when you do reach that ultimate goal of achievement, the feeling is so euphoric! It isn't isolated to just the rider, but shared and embraced by the entire support group and that's when your "why" is answered.
Now to the point of this long, and embarrassingly revealing post from a very reserved person. La Paz and I are in search of expanding that support group to secure our partnership. La Paz has proven he has the talent to spare to reach that upper echelon of sport that I am striving to get back to.
The most usual way that riders obtain these talented athletes, is to form syndicates to split the cost and upkeep into shares. This helps to keep the experience fun and affordable.
